Frequently asked questions

Is Hockey Pool free?

Yes. Hockey Pool is free to use right now. This is not a promise that every future feature will always be free.

How many pools can I create or join?

You can own up to two running pools at a time. Setup, drafting, redrafting and active pools all count toward this limit. Completed pools do not count. You can join an unlimited number of pools created by other people.

How do I invite friends?

Create an account and a pool, then share its invite code or link. Friends sign in and join while the pool is accepting members. The creator starts the draft once the minimum membership and roster requirements are met.

Which pool types are available?

A season pool has one opening draft and cumulative regular-season scoring. Playoff pools can keep the same roster, replace only eliminated players, or draft a fresh roster every round. The creator chooses the format and scoring rules.

How do manual picks and the timer work?

In a live draft, choose an available player on your turn before the timer expires. At the deadline, the server can make an eligible automatic pick that respects roster slots. Untimed drafting lets managers pick manually without a countdown. Snake order reverses each pass; normal order repeats the same order. No ranked queue is available in this release.

Can I draft an upcoming season or a new NHL player?

Upcoming-season players become available after NHL publishes roster data for that season and the website syncs it. A signing announcement alone does not put a player in the draft. Starting a draft automatically queues missing data. Contact the site administrator if a sync needs to be retried. Previous-season comparison statistics do not change roster eligibility.

Who can manually sync NHL data?

Only the site administrator can manually refresh shared NHL data. Pool creators can start drafts, which automatically queue missing data. Scheduled updates continue automatically; contact support if data needs another refresh.

Can we draft NHL teams too?

Yes. Season pool creators can enable one to four team slots per roster before the draft. Each NHL team can be chosen only once per pool. Set separate points for regulation, overtime and shootout wins, combined overtime/shootout losses, regulation losses, goals for, goals against and shutouts. Team points count toward the total; team games do not increase player GP. Playoff pools use the optional bracket instead.

What does the R badge mean?

R is shown only when rookie information has been recorded for the selected season. Unknown status has no badge. No rookie limit applies.

How are points calculated?

Each scoring statistic is multiplied by the point value chosen for the pool. Season pools use regular-season totals. Full-redraft playoff picks score games from their draft round; eliminated-player redrafts score from the pick round onward. Optional bracket points reward correct series winners.

Why do scores or player details look delayed?

NHL feeds, synchronization and scoring are separate steps. A final score can appear before player statistics finish processing. Daily updates, manual syncs and later NHL corrections may change totals. Live displays are not a guarantee of instant or final scoring.

What do injury and elimination labels mean?

The bandage tooltip shows the injury and estimated return when provided; estimates are not guarantees. A game scratch has a separate tooltip and does not confirm an injury. Sportradar is optional; ESPN provides the free fallback. Reports refresh every four hours while current-season monitoring is enabled. Failed refreshes retain the last known report. Injured players do not receive live roster markers. Elimination labels refer to playoff team elimination.

When do playoff redrafts happen?

The pool creator manages round completion and starts the next draft under the chosen format. Eliminated-player redrafts fill vacated slots; full redrafts replace the roster for the new round. Late game statistics can still update earlier rounds.

Can I trade players or use a salary cap?

Trades, waiver claims, salary caps and managed bench lineups are not part of the current basic pool experience. Do not assume those rules apply unless the website explicitly offers them for your pool.

How does support work?

Support is a live conversation with saved messages, so you can return later to read replies. An administrator is not guaranteed to be online, and no response time is guaranteed. Include the pool name and a clear description of the issue. Never send passwords.

Can I use the website in French?

Choose English or Français in the top-right language selector. Your choice is saved in this browser session. Without a saved choice, the website uses your browser language when supported. Player names, pool names and messages stay in their original language.
